During a difficult opening weekend at the Trapper Rodeo, the Northwest College rodeo team only garnered points at the second rodeo, with early season mistakes leading to a disappointing start to the year.

The Northwest College rodeo team is set to kick off its fall season this weekend, starting once again with the annual Trapper Rodeo on Friday and Saturday.

Northwest College athletes enjoyed a number of academic honors following strong seasons of competition. All six programs made the All-Academic teams and 52 individual athletes while the volleyball team finished second in the nation.

TRAPPER ATHLETICS DOMINATE ACADEMIC HONORS

Strong performances on the court were backed by strong performances in the classroom for Northwest College athletics, as all six teams made the All-Academic team list with cumulative team GPAs over 3.0, and 52 athletes were named individually to the All-Academic honors list.

TRAPPER RODEO WRAPS UP SEASON

The Northwest College rodeo team wrapped up its season with three more rodeos in Montana, two in Miles City April 24-27 before finishing in Missoula on May 2-3.

The lights shined bright in Casper during the College National Finals Rodeo from June 9-15, with two Northwest College Trapper cowboys posting scores, and one advancing to the short go during the biggest event of the year.

A strong spring season saw the Northwest College Trapper men’s rodeo team finish third overall in the Big Sky Region, resulting in three cowboys heading to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, while the women’s program finished sixth in the region.

Alexis Delzer helped the Northwest College women to a fifth place finish in the first rodeo and was the lone Trapper cowgirl to place, finishing tied for sixth in goat roping.

One final road trip to Montana gave the Northwest Trapper rodeo team one more opportunity to move up the Big Sky Region standings to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper next month — but a difficult weekend led to a fifth place finish, although two cowboys qualified for the national finals.

A trip to Miles City, Montana, paid off for the Northwest College rodeo team — with the men’s team winning the first two-day rodeo and multiple Trapper men and women putting in top performances over the four days of action.

Logan Smith and the Trapper rodeo team struggled to find form over the weekend in Bozeman, and will look to rebound in Miles City this weekend.
